Cotton Bay St Lucia

Cotton Bay St LuciaMy family and I visited the beautiful Cotton Bay resort in St Lucia during May 2007. The complex is set in three phases, the first two are completed but the third is still underway which means the back of the complex was still under construction.

This did not ruin any views and there was no noise because the development is set far away from the other apartments. All building work is projected to be finished by this year.

Apartment

The apartments are 5* and extremely luxurious with marble floors and brand new furniture. The apartment we stayed in was about 20 steps from the swimming pool, one minute from the beach and in an all round spectacular location.

The style of accommodation was a Tamarind; two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen with full appliances, lounge area, toilet, balcony and front porch/lounging area. The master bedroom was large with a four-poster bed, flat-screen TV, wardrobe and en-suite with shower, toilet etc. The second bedroom consisted of twin beds, two wardrobes, flat-screen TV. The bedroom was again a reasonable size and the beds were large for singles. The second bathroom also consisted of a shower, sink, toilet etc. both bathrooms were decorated in marble tiles.

The kitchen consisted of new units and doors, granite worktops, American style fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, oven and hob, microwave, basically everything you would normally have in your home kitchen. The lounge had enough seating for four people, a coffee table, huge TV cabinet and TV.

Swimming Pool

The pool is huge and we were one of the only groups of people there at the time so we pretty much had it all to ourselves – it was great! The pool is raised above the apartments so that privacy on balconies is maintained and there are steps leading up to the pool area. It is surrounded by wooden decking and luxurious wooden with fabric sun loungers. The pool is slightly heated and the temperature warms throughout the day, a morning swim is great for waking yourself up.

Local Area

The complex is set right on the beach therefore you do need to get taxis if you want to go out of Cotton Bay. The nearest town is Gros Islet and a taxi for four people costs about $16 US (approx. £8) one way, prices go up the more people travelling. The next town is Rodney Bay where there is a lively beach, restaurants, bars, small shopping mall etc. this only costs $16 US as well so it’s better to go to Rodney Bay!

Restaurants

Within the resort there is a fabulous beach bar, set right on the coast you really get a lovely breeze from the sea and obviously the fantastic view. The prices are extremely reasonable and they provide a 5* service, the staff are very friendly and will make sure everything is satisfactory. Common dishes on the evening menu included Duck, Red Snapper, Lamb, Pork and much much more. If you’re on the beach during the day you can pop in for a quick sandwich and a cold drink to keep you going for the rest of the day.

When we visited the resort it was not completely finished so this was the only restaurant available to us. There will be a posh piano bar coming soon where guests can wear suits and dresses and really spoil themselves.

Restaurants in the local area were lovely and again very reasonably priced.

The Edge Restaurant in Rodney Bay

We visited The Edge twice during our one week stay and I must say the food and service was to a Michelin Star quality. The food was incredible, the setting peaceful and romantic and the prices were unbelievable – great value for money.

Located on the water front, views before dark were beautiful and after dark were tranquil. Below are some pictures of our food:

Spa

I had the most amazing treatment involving an Vichy shower massage, scalp massage and foot massage, I could have spend thousands of pounds in the spa – I wanted every treatment available. If you have got some spare spending money it’s definitely worth booking a treatment at the spa, you will feel totally relaxed and calm.

Treatments available include manicures, pedicures, body wraps, body scrubs, massages, Vichy shower treatments (applying water to certain spots of your body), special treatments for you and your partner and loads more.

Beach

The beach at cotton bay is not perfect golden sand; it is slightly more natural looking with rugged edges and a beautiful mangrove by the beach bar. There is seaweed in the sea that collects on the sand but every morning this is cleared to make the beach look as perfect as possible.

There are horse rides available on the beach front and the horses go into the sea to cool off while you are on their backs. It is lovely and peaceful if you want to just sit with a good book and relax for the afternoon.
